Scholarships and Awards
Scholarships and awards play an important part in furthering students' education. On average, the engineering science and mechanics department awards more than $80,000 in student scholarships and awards each academic year. Scholarships in the department are awarded based upon various criteria and reflect the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award.

The following are brief descriptions of our departmental scholarships and awards:
Undergraduate Scholarships
Wes and Georgia Blakeslee Endowed Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, or successor academic units, who have demonstrated financial need.
Mather Family Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, or successor academic units
Lakhtakia-Scabbiolo Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students majoring in or planning to major in a degree program offered within the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, or successor academic units, who have demonstrated financial need. Firs preference given to students who are members of Women in Engineering
Engineering Science and Mechanics Endowed Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students who are majoring in a degree program in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics or successor academic unit, who have demonstrated financial need and have achieved superior academic records and have achieved a fourth semester standing or above
Laurie and Bradley O'Halla Honors Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students enrolled in Schreyer Honors College to provide recognition and financial assistance
Robert and Myrtle Vierck Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students of junior or senior standing who are enrolled in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics and intend to become graduate students at Penn State in engineering mechanics or engineering science and who have achieved or shown promise of outstanding academic success, demonstrated leadership abilities, and have strong moral character

Support for undergraduates in the form of scholarships/awards to students enrolled in Engineering Science and Mechanics
W. Thomas and Sharon T. Kennedy Scholarship
For outstanding full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics who have a proven financial need
The Andrew Pytel Scholarship
For full-time undergraduate students majoring or planning to major in Engineering Science in the College of Engineering who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success
Joseph Marin Memorial Scholarship Fund
For full-time or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics who are worthy and qualified
Sam Y. and Myrna R. Zamrik Scholarship in ESM
For full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success
Lyle W. and Virginia C. Coffey Scholarship in ESM
For full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics with demonstrated outstanding academic ability and achievement
Edward M. Frymoyer Honors Scholarship in ESM
For full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics who intend to engage in interdisciplinary pursuits. Two scholarships are awarded to students with superior records.
Vernon H. Neubert Dynamics Award in ESM
For full-time or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishment in a dynamics or vibrations class or demonstrated activity in teaching others about related topics
Jean Kearns McNitt Scholarship in Engineering Science
For full-time undergraduate students majoring in Engineering Science who are advised by engineering science faculty and have a proven financial need
Undergraduate Awards
McNitt-Kearns Engineering Science & Mechanics Award
Consideration for this award shall be given to honor and recognize an outstanding achievement by a full-time undergraduate student, in their third year or higher, who is enrolled in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, or successor academic unit, and who has provided outstanding service to the Department and the student Society of Engineering Science, or successor organization
Dr. John T. and Carolyn O. Frasier Merit Award in Engineering Science and Mechanics
For full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Engineering Science at the University Park campus who have achieved outstanding academic success
The Walter Jaunzemis Memorial Award Fund
For full-time undergraduate students of at least junior standing with superior academic records
Engineering Science Award Fund
For undergraduate students of at least sophomore standing enrolled in the Engineering Science major who have achieved superior academic records and have a proven financial need

To enrich the discipline of engineering by providing monies for a variety of initiatives and programs in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics
