Corrosion monitoring with ultrasound and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

Project Description:

This undergraduate research project provides hands-on experience with corrosion monitoring using ultrasonic testing and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Students will prepare and characterize metal samples, collect experimental data, and learn how ultrasound detects material thinning while EIS monitors surface corrosion reactions in real-time. The project involves data analysis to compare results from both techniques and understand corrosion progression. This interdisciplinary work offers opportunities to collaborate across materials science and engineering while developing valuable laboratory and analytical skills for graduate studies or industry careers.
