The following presentations were made in class by the students of

E Sci 497C: Materials in Design for Green Engineering

Instructors: Charles E. Bakis and Akhlesh Lakhtakia

Engineering activities materially alter the environment, so all engineers are effectively environmental engineers. Incorporating the principles of green engineering in industry is not only cost-effective, it is also environmentally sound. Engineers can make a difference in reducing pollution, alleviating the solid waste crisis, and in arresting source depletion.

This course is designed to be taken by seniors and graduate students, the objective being to reduce wastage of engineering materials by designing products and processes appropriately. Source reduction as well as recyclability and reusability by design are taught and discussed. Economic factors are also addressed. Lectures are supplemented by case studies.
