• Complex Mediums need to be explained and popularized to facilitate collaboration between diverse research communities.
• Technological as well as scientific terminology needs to be streamlined to facilitate dialog. Group-theoretic concepts should be used.
• The underlying mathematical unity of analytical treatments of electromagnetic fields in different classes of complex mediums as well as at different length scales must be emphasized.
• Cross-disciplinary frequency scaling should be exploited in experimental research.
• Mesoscopic (multi-molecular cluster level) analyses, as well as chiral films and nonlinear materials, are identifiable growth areas.
• Aging and memory effects in complex materials need substantial attention from researchers.
• Research on various types of sensors unifies several disciplines.
• Complex mediums must be incorporated in electromagnetics and optics courses.
