Research

My main research interests are the manufacturing, performance, evaluation, and mechanics of fiber reinforced composite materials. Application areas include fixed and rotary wing aircraft, civil structures, and industrial machinery. I am currently looking for graduate and undergraduate researchers in the areas of rotorcraft and civil construction. Please contact me if you are seeking such a position. My current projects projects include:

  • Design, fabrication, and test of composite flywheel energy storage systems
  • Durability of internal and external composite (FRP) reinforcements for concrete
  • Flexible matrix composites for highly deformable, active, and morphing structures
  • Electrically oriented nanofillers for multifunctional structural composites
  • Composite energy absorbing systems for crashworthy vehicles
