Topics to be announced in February!

Microcomponents using Lithography

Students will perform shape forming and sintering experiments in powder metal laboratory. The tooling which defines the geometry will be fabricated using lithography.
Send email to Dr. Donald F. Heaney Jr. for more information.

High Energy Capacitors

Students will be involved with fabrication and testing insulating materials that will be used in pulsed power applications.Thin polymer and glass sheet will be electroded and the breakdown strenght up to 30kV will be explored in these materials.
Minimum experience: Junior in science or engineering related field, preferably with an electronics interest
Send email to Michael T. Lanagan for more information.

ISemiconductor nanocrystals, quantum dots, light emitting diodes, solid state lighting, white emission phosphors

Investigate the non-radiative energy coupling between colloidal quantum dot and nitride blue emitters toward the development of high-efficiency white light-emitting diodes.
Send email to Dr. Jian Xu for more information.

Delivery of Nanoparticles with Surface-Coated Proteins into Biological Cells

Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) will be prepared in solution with different size ranges. The GNPs are characterized with different techniques to determine their sizes, dispersity in solution, and surface charge.GFP(Green Florescent Protein) will be coated onto the GNP surface, forming GNP-GFP complex. The research is highly significant in extending the applications of nanoparticles in chemotherapy, and gene delivery.
Send email to Dr. Sulin Zhang for more information.
