Description: The session will cover recent advances in applying advanced mechanistic and fracture models for the characterization of materials used in civil infrastructure such as bridges, pavements, buildings. Recent research has led to the development of material models that incorporate fundamental material properties and constitutive relationships to accurately and realistically predict the behavior of materials used to build or repair civil infrastructure. Application of those models in conjunction with numerical techniques such as finite, discrete, and boundary element analysis leads to more accurate and realistic prediction of the performance of the structures that they are incorporated in. Such materials include: fiber reinforced composites, wood, Portland cement concrete, and asphalt materials.
