The Undergraduate Major in Engineering Science
Engineering Science is the undergraduate honors program for students who demonstrate superior academic potential or achievement. Each student carries out a senior capstone design project on a topic of mutual interest to him or her and a faculty adviser. The program is designed both for students who plan to pursue graduate study and for those who seek a solid interdisciplinary foundation in engineering.
The first two years of course work are more or less the same for all students in the college of engineering (math, English, chemistry, physics, mechanics, and engineering design). The third year in engineering science provides a broad foundation in electrical devices and circuits, thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluid mechanics, modern physics, materials science, electromagnetics, failure analysis, and numerical analysis. The fourth year is dominated by student-selected technical electives and the senior design project. Click here for a list containing some previous thesis titles.
Engineering Science is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc. 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone: 410.347.7700 or www.abet.org
