Mr. Alan Berger, student marshall 2007
Congratulations to Mr. Alan Berger who will represent the engineering science class of spring 2007 as the engineering science student marshal. Mr. Berger is completing concurrent degrees in both engineering science and physics. He is also completing a minor in mathematics.

Mr. Berger has chosen Christine Masters, assistant professor of engineering science to be his faculty escort.

Alan is the son of David Berger and Rosanne Day of Allentown, Pennsylvnania. He is a graduate of Parkland High School (2003).

Mr. Berger is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Penn State Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, and Bible Study through DiscipleMakers. He is a Committee member of Boy Scout Troop 29 in Centronia, PA.
Mr. Berger is a National Merit Scholar, and a recipient of the following scholarships: the President's Freshmans, Sparks, and Evan Pugh Scholar awards, Schreyer Honors College scholarship, Academic Excellence and the Pennsylvania Engineering Foundation.

Mr. Berger participated in the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) which was a 10-week summer research experience conducted at Michigan Tech. His research focused on the use of ethanol as a biofuel. He also participated in the PPL Scholarships for Interns Academic Success where he helped design an outage plan for a scheduled turbine replacement at a coal-fired power plant.

Mr. Berger's senior capstone research and design project was conducted on nanocomposite organic solar cell devices under the direction of Dr Jian Xu, assistant professor of engineering science and mechanics.

After graduation, Mr. Berger plans to pursue a masters of science degree in engineering science at Penn State.
