Hwanjeong Cho, graduate student in engineering science and mechanics, received the Thomas and June Beaver award for the spring 2010 semester. The award was established to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students at Penn State who are performing industrially-sponsored research. Hwanjeong Cho is advised by Professor Cliff Lissenden.

Manton Guers, graduate student in engineering science and mechanics, completed the Graduate School Teaching Certificate. To achieve this, Manton attended the Schreyer New Instructor Orientation, completed the Schreyer Institute Course in College Teaching and Higher Education (HI ED 546) and made several contributions to teaching E MCH 440 (Nondestructive Evaluation). In addition to teaching all the laboratory experiments, he took initiative to revise established experiments and developed new experiments for the course. Manton is advised by Dr. Bernhard Tittmann, Schell Professor in Engineering Science and Mechanics. ESM Congratulates Manton on his achievement!

Jason Hoover at the 2010 contest
The Society of Engineering Science entered the 2010 Penn State Rube Goldberg Machine Contest in February 2010. This year’s national challenge was to design and build a machine that dispenses an appropriate amount of hand sanitizer into a hand in 20 or more steps.
