Yu Bing Zheng
Congratulations to Yuebing Zheng, graduate student in engineering science and mechanics, for having been selected for the Rustum and Della Roy Innovation in Materials Research Award in the graduate student category. The Rustum and Della Roy Innovation in Materials Research Award is a prestitious award designed to honor interdisciplinary materials research at Penn State which yields valuable unexpected results and also to recognize genuine innovation not previously achieved.

Mr. Zheng's research discoveries include inventing a high-throughput, cost-effective method to fabricate long-range ordered metal nanostructures and systematically studied their plasmonic properties; developing a temporal- and spatial-spectrophotometric technique to investigate the dynamic self-assembly process of colloidal crystals inside microfluidic channels; introducing a new concept (and possibly a future field) called plasmofluidics to the scientific community, which contributed to the development of plasmonics-based "lab-on-achip" systems for medical diagnosis, therapy, and drug discovery; and, pioneering a new class of active plasmonic materials/devices using molecular machines.

Join the ESM Department in congratulation Dr. Zheng for his outstanding success and accomplishments.
