ESM graduate students Sean Pursell and John Meeker attended the 5th annual “How to Engineer Engineering Education” workshop held at Bucknell University in cooperation with NSF, July 17-19, 2006. The workshop was an active learning experience and culminated with participants developing an instructional module.

Penn State and the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics will host The 43rd Annual Technical Meeting of the Society of Engineering Science on the University Park Campus August 13-16, 2006.

Dr. Sam Y. Zamrik, Professor Emeritus of Engineering Mechanics, is the Conference and Technical Program Chair of the Eleventh International Council on Pressure Vessel Technology (ICPVT-11) taking place July 23-27, 2006, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Dr. Judith A. Todd, P.B. Breneman Department Head Chair, Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, is the Conference Chair of the 2006 ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Pressure Vessels and Piping (PVP) Conference taking place July 23-27, 2006, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Fei Yan, Engineering Science and Mechanics doctoral student, will present a postered titled "Ultrasonic Guided Wave Imaging of a Composite Plate with Air-Coupled Transduceres" atthe ASME PVP 2006/ICPVT-11 Conference and QNDE 2006, to be held July 22 - August 4, 2006.

Kaan Kalkan (Ph.D., Engineering Science and Mechanics, Penn State, 2001; M.S., Mechanical Engineering, Penn State; BS, Physics and Mechanical Engineering, Bogazici University, Turkey), currently a Research Assistant at the Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization (CNEU) at Penn State, accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at Oklahoma State University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department with a starting date of August 14.

Jason Campbell, Engineering Science and Mechanics doctoral student, has been awarded the outstanding paper for his paper titled "NBTI: An Atomic-Scale Defect Perspective". The paper was presented at the IEEE International Reliability Physics Conference in San Jose, CA, March 26 - 30, 2006.

The paper was co-authored with Patrick M. Lenahan (Penn State, Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics) and A. T. Krishnan and S. Krishnan (Texas Instruments).
