Hello,

Who's gonna be tired first ? As soon as I make a release, someone
asks for special improvements the day after ;-)

So here is a new beta with three new features :
-can check new versions of the software
-a little better error manager (more complete error sentences)
-You can now choose between pdflatex and latex+dvipdf mode (see pref.
pane). This should allow some packages to work better. This is a
rather big modification, so that I expect there will be bugs. Could
you please focus on this one to see if you do not encounter any
strange behaviour ?

That may be OT, but it's interesting and useful information IMHO. On =20
top of the friendly atmosphere and far-reaching information on TeX, =20
it's such OT insight into OS X that make this list very valuable to me.

Hmmm. Not for long.

Subject: Hand-Writing Style Mathematical Formula for Keynote Blackboard Theme?
From: "Jung-Tsung Shen"
Date: Thu, 28 Jul 2005 00:26:59 -0700

Hi, I have extensively searched the internet but still couldn't find
the answers, and am writing to the mailing list for help.

I started using Keynote very recently, and like the "blackboard" theme
very much. The default font for text matches the theme very well. For
mathematical formulas, and the simple diagrams generated by PSTricks,
I use a wonderful little program, LaTeXiT. This program serves the
purpose extremely well. However, for this particular "blackboard"
theme in Keynote, I would hope the mathematical formula are displayed
as "hand-writing style" to match the text, rather than the elegant
LaTeX default style. Does this kind of font/package for displaying
hand writing mathematical formula exist?

Thanks for any input.

Sincerely,
JT

My system is Mac OS X 10.4.2 + Keynote 2.

You may want to try the concmath package (see /Library/teTeX/share/=20
texmf.tetex/doc/latex/concmath/concmath.dvi). It will use the Euler =20
fonts for math (see /Library/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/doc/latex/=20
amsfonts/amsfonts.dvi) and the Concrete fonts for text (see /Library/=20
teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/doc/latex/beton/beton.dvi).

Warning: for the Concrete fonts to be available in PostScript form, =20
you need to install the CM-Super fonts i-Package. Otherwise the fonts =20=

will be included as PK bitmaps in your PDF equations, yielding output =20=

that will be downright ugly and slow to display.

Hope this helps,

Bruno Voisin=

What font does the blackboard theme use?

If it's Tekton, Informal Math is what you want:

http://www.micropress-inc.com/fonts/ifmath/ifmain.htm

If it's something else you could start w/ sansmath.sty from CTAN and
see how close you could get.

Aaron, you should be happy with this new LaTeXiT 1.3.2 beta ;-)

http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/fichiers/LaTeXiT-1_3_2.dmg
http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/fichiers/LaTeXiT-panther-1_3_2.dmg
http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/fichiers/LaTeXiT-source-1_3_2.dmg

What's new since 1.3.1 ?
- you can now compose using pdflatex or latex+dvipdf - it is useful
for some packages;
- you can now export library items as "encapsulated" or "decorated"
text;
- you can now check for new versions;

Now, there are two points on which I would like volunteer beta
testers to focus their attention :
-if latex+dvipdf works as expected
-how could I improve the "Encapsulations" panels so that people that
do not care understand what it is anyway ?

Thanks,

Pierre Chatelier

In Keynote 1 it used to be Comic Sans MS IIRC. In Keynote 2 (or is it =20=

in Tiger only?) it is now Chalkboard apparently.

I also see this bug in Xcode. And it was already in Panther.

Maybe they simply add an own creator code to the pdf?

That is interesting since I never once saw it in Panther and I have =20
never seen it in any other app than TeXShop. This one sounds like a =20
tough one to track down.

Hmm, I've never seen this in BBEdit or any of my other apps, nor to the
best of my knowledge have we gotten any reports about such a problem.

If Axel or anyone else who's observed this behavior in BBEdit could pleas=
e
send a note to describing the symptoms plus
the app version and display font you're using, so that we can investigate=
,
I'd very much appreciate it.

To be more specific, I think this is an AppKit bug, not a Tiger bug - =20=

All the apps people have mentioned with the problem use the AppKit's =20
NSTextView text editing widget, while BBEdit does not. (Unless I've =20
missed something recent)

Indeed, NSTextView seems to have gotten a little weird in Tiger. I =20
think it might be a result of recent attempts to speed up text =20
drawing, related to the new graphics layer, and I assume it'll be =20
ironed out in time. Until then, I will attempt to embrace its new =20
quirky personality. And use Emacs a lot. :)
