Here, again, is my weekly reminder of a little list etiquette.

(1) Please do not start a new thread (with the corresponding new
subject) by replying to a post from another thread. If you do this,
email clients, such as Apple's Mail, will then put all of these
messages together making it very difficult to find information.

(2) Please use *plain* text when posting to the list -- it makes the
archives much easier to read. This is done in Apple's Mail by going to:

Mail > Preferences > Composing

and then choosing plain text as the Message Format.

Thank you,

Is it possible to get the list mails in a digest format?

Yes. This information is in the headers of every message sent out by
the list. Expanding, you first unsubscribe from the regular list by
sending a message to:

Then resubscribe to the digest by sending a message to:

I hope this helps.

I don't understand this. Emacs as it is in CVS with AUCTeX installed can =
do

This plugin is definitely much more that just an installation of AUCTeX.

It is (a) a convenient way to properly install a large number of pre-
configured useful packages for LaTeX users, which includes (b) a hack
of AUCTeX, that allows to have a more intuitive handling of the
"view" command in a macintosh context (in particular, for non-pdftex
users willing to preview in pdf). In the good old days, the
customisation of AUCTeX was heavier, but now AUCTeX has evolved.

Looks like the upgrade to Tiger 10.4.2 solved the problem with split
windows in TeXShop and the appearance of spurious text.

I hope this is not too off topic... I have 6 eps figures that I am
trying to turn into one one large eps figure with the 6 figures as
subfigures arranged in a 3x2 configuration (possibly with captions for
each subfigure). I haven't needed to do this in the past, so I don't
know the best way to do this. If possible, I would like to use a
command line tool that is part of one of GW's i-packages. Does anybody
have any pointers?  Thanks.

You can arrange the figures with the help of simple Latex commands,
see the example below, where you only have to replace the \begin
{mfpic} by \includegraphics. You might not need minipages.

Claus

\begin{minipage}{5cm}%
\begin{center}
\begin{mfpic}[15]{-4.2}{16}{-4.2}{4.2}
%\store{U}{\cyclic[.75]{(-2,-2),(0,-1.5),(2,-2.4),(1.8,2),(0.5,1.8),
(-2.3,1.7)}}
%\gfill[0.7white]\mfobj{U}
%\draw\mfobj{U}
%\penwd{.7pt}
%\point{(-1.8,-1.8),(1.8,-2)}
\arrow\curve{(-1.8,-1.8),(0,0),(1.8,-1)}
%\tlabel[tc](-2,1){$E$}
%\tlabel[tb](-,0){ $x_0$ }
%\tlabel[tb](12,0){ $f(x_0)$ }
%\tcaption[2,1]{A pathwise connected space}
\end{mfpic}\\[-30pt]
{\hskip -10pt An embedding}
\end{center}
\end{minipage}%\hskip 2cm
\begin{minipage}{5cm}%
\begin{center}
\begin{mfpic}[15]{-4.2}{16}{-4.2}{4.2}
%\store{U}{\cyclic[.75]{(-2,-2),(0,-1.5),(2,-2.4),(1.8,2),(0.5,1.8),
(-2.3,1.7)}}
%\gfill[0.7white]\mfobj{U}
%\draw\mfobj{U}
%\penwd{.7pt}
%\point{(-1.8,-1.8),(1.8,-2)}
\arrow\curve{(-1.8,-1.8),(0,0),(0.5,-1), (-1,-1.5), (1,0), (1.8,-1)}
%\tlabel[tc](-2,1){$E$}

I usually cheat: I put the figures in a table, with extra labels, and
referencing those in the main caption:

\begin{figure}
\begin{tabular*}{\textwidth}{c@{\hspace*{\fill}}c}
\includegraphics{bogus1} & \includegraphics{bogus2} \\
(a) & (b)\\
\includegraphics{bogus3} & \includegraphics{bogus4} \\
(c) & (d)
\end{tabular*}
\caption[short]{long, referencing the (manual) (a), (b) etc.}
\end{figure}

Hope this helps. There are neater solutions, especially if you need
the figures to be vertically aligned, and the columns have the same
width, see the tex FAQ for pointers (http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/
texfaq2html?introduction=3Dyes)

Hi Aaron,

I have found success doing this with the \subfig and \rotating packages:

\begin{sidewaysfigure}
\begin{center}

	\subfloat[]{\includegraphics[width=3D0.45\linewidth{}]{IMG1}  \label{Fig=
:IMG1}}
\quad
	\subfloat[]{\includegraphics[width=3D0.45\linewidth{}]{IMG2} \label{Fig:=
IMG2}}

\caption[TEXT FOR TOC.]{CAPTION TEXT: \subref{Fig:IMG1} IMG1 SPECIFIC TEX=
T
\cite{IMG1 CITATION}; \subref{Fig:IMG2} IMG2 SPECIFIC TEXT.} \label{Fig:I=
MGS}
\end{center}
\end{sidewaysfigure}

The beauty of this method is that references in the body of the text will=
 be
shown as, for example Figure 1(a), 1(b), and Figure 1 if you use Figure
\ref{IMG1}, Figure \ref{IMG2}, and Figure \ref{IMGS} respectively.

Cheers
Alan
