Thanks,

I believe LyX has its own file format, and isn't easily converted to
pure LaTeX.

Did you know there's an OS X version of LyX?

http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/LyX/Mac

Just download and you can edit the file yourself.

I think you may have the wrong idea about LyX. It serves a similar,
but not identical, function as TeXShop.

In TeXShop, you enter raw tex/latex, push a button, and see gorgeous
output.

In LyX, you enter (more or less) what you want to see, and LyX
displays the more-or-less gorgeous output right there. Then you push
a button, and the real gorgeous output is displayed in a dvi/pdf
viewer. Instead of raw tex/latex, you tell LyX what you are doing,
and then type away (for math, using raw tex/latex, of course). It
takes a bit of getting used to but it does work.

Justin

Hello,

If you want to edit the file in TeXShop:

1. Download and install LyX. (It's just a drag and drop installation).

     The download is linked from:

     http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/LyX/Mac

     as noted by Kevin.

2. Open the LyX file someone sent to you.

3. Export it as a LaTeX file.

4. Open the exported file in TeXShop.

LyX is actually pretty neat. I find it a bit ponderous to use for
daily work, but it is good for setting up preambles for things I
don't have the time to learn, such as using the bookman font or
setting up custom-sized paper, then exporting to LaTeX.

Take care,

Bob Kerstetter

Hello,

Here is certainly the last beta for LaTeXiT (rc10)
There are now two versions, one for Tiger (MacOS 10.4), one for
Panther (MacOS 10.3) (with less capabilities, see the readme)

http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/fichiers/LaTeXiT-beta.dmg (for Tiger)
http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/fichiers/LaTeXiT-panther-beta.dmg
(for Panther)

Since last beta, there are only some minor bug fixes.

Regards,

Pierre

PS : I will be out for a week, so there is still time to bug report !

Howdy,

I'm unable to have changes in the Preamble via the Preferences-
 >Edition stick. I tend to use Lucida Bright a good deal of the time.

Could you explain what will be ``fixed'' when I eventually am able to
update to 10.4.2 or is that covered by the Non-Disclosure Agreement?
You can apply the last comment recursively to the question I suppose!

Good Luck,

Hello.

Thanks for the advice. I had copied Bruno Voisin's instructions =20
verbatim, but even after changing input to \input and typing fontinst =20=

instead of fontint, when the file (named Csc-drv.tex)

\input fontinst.sty
\latinfamily{Csc}{}
\bye

was sent through TeXShop with Plain Tex and Tex with Ghostscript =20
invoked in the typeset menu, Tex complained that fontinst 1.924 was =20
called for, but fontinst 1.8 was provided. (There were unknown =20
commands like \begincomment. I had installed TeXShop 2.03 with the i-=20=

installer, so it's apparently in need of a newer version of =20
fontinst.) OK, so I got fontinst 1.928, and replaced 1.8 with 1.928, =20=

which I put in the main Library where 1.8 had been. (First I tried =20
1.924 itself.) Running Tex now produces the following console =20
output. It appears that certain etx files (namely 8r.etx) can't be =20
found. Are they not internal to fontinst? (Files labeled Cscr8a.pl =20
and Cscr8a.mtx are now produced in the folder containing the source =20
file Csc-drv.tex. What's not produced are the fd and vpl files.)

Peter Dyballa recommended a longer source file that would do more =20

What's that, and how do you use it?

Suggestions?

Two possible mistakes: wrong place you installed in *and/or* sudo
texhash forgotten.

The right places to intall fontist are

/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/fontinst
charlespugh/Library/texmf/tex/fontinst

An upgrade of your TeX i-Package to 2004 stable might bring the recent
fontinst version (or 2005 devel).

Plain TeX is the right thing, no Ghostscript needed. Please try to
invoke in Terminal 'sudo texhash' -- I'm sure this will cure the
problem of not finding the fontinst files. In approximately 40 min
(European time?) I'll be off-line for some hours ...

Very cool. The text drag and drop feature is what I was looking for.

A drawer that stored various different text encapsulations, including
multiline snippets, would be awesome. For now I just keep the
preferences open and change the encapsulation as needed.

Thanks for your hard work!

Folks,

Gerben Wierda temporarily unsubscribed from the mailing list to go
on vacation. (His wife may have insisted.)

Gerben just asked me to put out a request for testing of the
"Experimental" TeX Package (TL 2005 set).

He rebuilt the set on 10.4.1 with gcc 3.3 and hopes this fixes problems
a few users reported earlier. Please test specifically on Mac OS X 10.2.
