Hi Herb

Interesting, but I can't find an "engines" folder. I Suspect it is
hidden. Also I use iTeXMac. I don't mind using TeXshop if required. Can
I change the "engine" using the terminal?

Howdy,

The procedure I gave was for TeXShop. The first time you start up
TeXShop it will produce a TeXShop folder in your Home's Library
folder (~/Library/TeXShop/). The ``Engines'' folder is inside that
TeXShop folder.

The procedure for iTeXMac is a bit different than TeXShop and I'm not
too familiar with it. It can be done from within iTeXMac by creating
a new project and setting up the Compile and typeset commands within
that project.

Good Luck,

At times too I get another surprising behaviour, which is unwanted =20
but isn't a bug at all: pressing inadvertently Cmd-Space or Cmd-Alt-=20
Space, and ending up selecting Unicode Hex Input.

No, that's not a bug, that's a feature! Go into System Preferences,
international (the UN flag) and choose the right most tab, Keyboard
Menu? Then press on Options to see that it's a feature ... (on Panther
and Jaguar and earlier)

Hi Herb

In regards to iTeXMac.

Well to start. I have been searching iTeXMac files.

I have a folder which is iTeXMac 1.3.15

Within this folder is another folder iTeXMac Examples

Which has a folder  HTML

Which harbours a file  TeX4ht.pTeXMac

Which will produce a html document.

Hot damn!

Of course MS still crashes if I try to open the html in Word but copy
and paste works.

Subject: question about the list of figures
From: "Luis Sequeira"
Date: Mon, 27 Jun 2005 15:05:22 +0100

A friend of mine is finishing her thesis (on an iBook running Tiger
and TeXShop/teTeX, so this is at least slightly on topic :-)).

She uses \listoffigures to produce a list of figures, as normal. The
trouble is that some of the figures don't really have a meaningful
caption, just a figure number (produced with \caption{}).
In the list of figures, these appear as completely blank lines, with
just the page number at the end of the line. She would like these to
still appear, but provide a text such as "Figure n". Of course one
can *add* one such line with \addcontentsline but I can't figure out
how to avoid the blank line in the first place. Any suggestions?

TIA

Luis Sequeira

Try this, extending Stephan suggestion:

\begin{figure}[h]
\includegraphics[scale=3D.8]{whatever}
\caption[Figure \ref{fig:whatever}]{\ }
\label{fig:whatever}
\end{figure}

Works fine here.

Basically, for the figure:

"whatever" is the name of the image.

the caption uses a reference to the label "fig:whatever"

using a ref to itsself in the \caption[]{} square bracket works fine
and shows up in the list of figures. cool.

Hi all,
