Howdy,

Nothing broken that can't be easily fixed by removing both long =20
comments after using the examples there to make your changes.

Howdy,

Oooo... dare you tempt us with other changes/enhancements? It can't
hurt to try.

Sounds great! Thanks and kind regards. Friedrich

Not likely ...

Hello!

I 'looked' with strings into bibtex and bibtex8. Both know of=20
texmf.cnf, refer to quite the same TEX environment variables and use=20
libkpathsea. They should work alike.

In bibtex8 I found these lines

Warning: cannot open CS file: empty --csfile value specified.
	.csf
c8read_csf: trying to open CS file `%s' ...
Error: cannot open CS file: %s
The 8-bit codepage and sorting file: %s

So you should receive either warnings in Terminal or in TeXShop's=20
console, at least they should be recorded in the log.file (I am no=20
bibtex or bibtex8 user, so I have to guess a bit).

The error is somewhere else: it's in libkpathsea! To check it, run in=20
Terminal for example

	kpsewhich -progname=3Dbibtex8

You'll get the complete absolute path name listed. The same with a=20
system CSF file does not work -- no answer! 'kpsewhich --help' *does=20
not* mention .csf files, which could be a bug. 'kpsewhich=20
-show-path=3D.csf' therefore returns "warning: kpsewhich: Ignoring=20
unknown file type `.csf'."

So that's the proof that it won't work! As a work-around you could=20
create symlinks from your CSF files to the directory that helds the=20
other TeX files:

	cd
	ln -s
... as many ln commands as you need ...

(you can add `.=B4 to the end of the ln command line, but it's not=20
needed). The other way is to pass the whole path name of the CSF file=20
to bibtex8:

	bibtex8 --help

	bibtex8 -c FILE
	bibtex8 --csfile FILE

Well, you too could write a letter to Karl Berry,=20
mailto:tex-k@mail.tug.org, asking him for the reason libkpathsea is not=20=

supporting CSF files ...

Where do we find instructions for this? Sound like what we used to be
able to do with ResEdit.

You need to Ctrl-Click on TeXShop to view the package content, and =20
then navigate to Contents/Resources/English.lproj/MainMenu.nib. =20
Double-clicking on this file opens it in Interface Builder (provided =20
you've installed Xcode), where it can be edited. But you've got to do =20=

this for every language you use.

And yes I agree this feels very much like ResEdit. I tried this for =20
the first time today, and it brings back this feel-good impression of =20=

the former Mac OS 9 days, of the time when, without being a developer =20=

or having to compile, you could modify applications to get them to =20
behave exactly the way you liked.

The only thing that's missing is the little animation from the =20
ResEdit splash screen, which was fun to look at.

That's true for applications which use Apple's InterfaceBuilder etc.,
so it works for a large number of applications today.
I don't know any good tutorial, but usually you find what you need
quite quickly by trying out -- Bruno has pointed out the basic method.

best,
Matthias

Subject: Equation Service
From: "Joran Elias"

Does anyone know of any incompatibilities between Equation Service
1.0 and OS X 10.4.1 and Mail 2.0.1?

ES is working fine in TextEdit, but only the drag+drop functionality
is working in Mail (I am opening messages in Rich Text format). Will
I have to wait for ES 1.1? I'd really love to be able to compile
LaTeX code directly in Mail, so and help would be appreciated!

Many thanks!

Not specifically, but I have a good guess.

mail app no longer uses the NSTextArea (or whatever it's called) for
editing. It uses a new WebKit text area to allow direct HTML editing.

this is almost certainly the cause of the problems.
