Hi.

I want to learn how to create Beamer-presentations. How can I do that?
What do I need? I am familiar with LaTeX and KOMA-classes. But I did never
before create a presentation, not with LaTeX and not with PowerPoint too.
So I need a step-by-step tutorial for bloody beginners.

And it's urgent, because the presentation must take place at Tuesday.

Thanks in advance for any hint! Kind regards. Friedrich

BTW: I prefer German tutorials.

I am talking about the command '\marks' not that of `\mark'. \marks
is not a command in TeX or LaTeX let alone a primitive.

Thanks for your other suggestions. I will look into them.

\marks is a new primitive introduced by eTeX, the enhanced TeX engine =20=

which is now used by all variants of TeX (except plain TeX -- the =20
plain TeX format + DVI output -- at Don Knuth's explicit request =20
IIRC). See /Library/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/doc/etex/base/etex-man.pdf.

In Gerben Wierda's TeX, I think the now above corresponds to the 2004 =20=

and 2005 setups, with the former behaviour corresponding to the 2003 =20
setup.

Having had a bit more time to look through the doc: in the =20
documentation for teTeX itself, at /Library/teTeX/share/texmf/doc/=20
tetex/TETEXDOC.pdf, you'll see more detail about the change that was =20
introduced in the underlying TeX engine. This is (briefly) explained =20
in section 4.6:

"4.6 pdfetex: the new default TEX engine
teTEX uses pdfetex for all formats except =93good-old=94 tex. So, if you =
=20
run latex, the
underlying engine will be pdfetex. Some (broken) TEX macros assume =20
that pdfTEX is
running in PDF generation mode if they detect primitives that pdfTEX =20
has introduced
(e.g. \pdfoutput). This is wrong, since pdfTEX can also be used (and =20
is used) to gen-
erate DVI output. A reliable way of detecting PDF output mode is =20
implemented in
ifpdf.sty which works for plain TEX as well as LATEX."

Hello all,

I wonder if someone can help me make TeXShop show all sectioning
commands (i.e. \chapter\section\subsub ... etc.) in a colour different
from the one of the other commands. This feature proves quite helpful
when working on long, command-full documents.

I have tried playing a little with the instructions under "Hidden
preferences" in the help files, but I really don't know what I am doing.

In addition to the advice below, you might also=20
consider the movie15 package for including=20
QuickTime movies in your presentations. It's=20
pretty easy. The sample below for a recent talk=20
shows how to include two movies side by side on=20
the same slide. (Note, make sure your=20
distribution is up to date. It will not work on=20
older TeX distributions) I am pretty much a=20
beginner with LaTeX, and I find Beamer work great=20
for presentations.

\begin{frame}
   \frametitle{Oxygen and Fuel Vapor Mass Fraction}
	\includemovie[controls,open,text=3DOxygen=20
Mass Fraction]{2.0in}{2.0in}{Oxygen_Movie.mov}
	\hfill
	\includemovie[controls,open,text=3DFuel=20
Vapor Mass Fraction]{2.0in}{2.0in}{Fuel_Movie.mov}
\end{frame}

Good Luck,

Dan

Howdy,

I don't know if this helps or not but sectioning commands
automatically are placed in the `tags' drop down in the toolbar of
the text (.tex) file window. Pick one of those and you'll
automatically be taken to that sectioning command.

You by adding a line

%:tagname

to a file you can add tagname to the tag list and jump to it quickly.
You can quickly add the `%:' by using the Cmd-2 keyboard shortcut.

Hope this helps.

I did try to adat BIBINPUTS and BSTINPUTS. It especially puzzles me
that bibtex (7bit) is
capable of finding all bst-files I have, and bibtex8 can find none.
Maybe bibtex8 uses
a different texmf.cnf file?

Given Cmd-< and Cmd-> are used by TeXShop to indent and unindent =20
lines, the OS X meanings of these shortcuts (for toggling windows) =20
cannot work any longer in TeXShop.

Only hope: change TeXShop's keyboard shortcuts, to something else =20
than Cmd-< and Cmd->. This is supposedly done by editing ~/Library/=20
TeXShop/Menus/KeyEquivalents.plist, but IIRC recent posts on this =20
list there's something broken in this file at the moment.

Folks,

In the latest local version of TeXShop, I revert back to Cmd [ and
Cmd ] for indent and
unindent if the edit window is active. These shortcuts perform the
Back and Forward
actions if the Preview window is active. This frees up Cmd < and Cmd

This version should be released soon, probably within a week.

If I understand it correctly, the problem is that Apple has decided
to map the "toggle windows" features to a actual key on the keyboard
(the one next to the left shift key). Since this key is mapped to
different characters depending on your system language, this causes
problems in specific system languages only, iirc German and French.
This is really annoying, since a developer who uses another language
will not recognize the problem. OmniOutliner has the same problem,
for example.

> It drives me crazy! Is there anywhere outside there a dirty hack to

You can edit the Mainmenu.nib in the TeXShop package. This has worked
for me.
Please ask if you need detailed instructions.

But I just saw Dick's post, so you might want to wait for the next
version which fixes the problem.

Best,
Matthias
