No. The Apple Frameworks do not support that behaviour and I am relying
on the Apple Frameworks.

Try to use ncftp and download TeX-fat.dmg (see
http://www.rna.nl/tex.html for a link)

Unless Mr. Wierda says otherwise, why don't you use wget
(http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/wget.html)* to
download his TeX-fat.dmg?

With wget you can resume your downloads from the point where they were
interrupted, be it because of a broken line or because you have to
shut down your machine.

Axel

* The package in the Apple page is outdated, but there is a link to the
product page, where you can get other applications, like Simple-wget (I
haven't used it), which uses a graphical interface (wget is a command
line program).

Sorry --- I haven't seen this when I recommended wget.

I use TeXShop for writing all my papers, and I am interacting with a Linux =
user. He complains that TeXShop saves all the text files with Mac line =
endings. Is there a setting for the line endings to be used in TeXShop? =
Can there be, so that I don't have to do it manually in BBEdit all the =
time.

Secondly, he complains that the eps files, which I generate using =
GraphicConverter from png or pdf, also have Mac line endings. Is there any =
way in OS X to generate eps with Unix line endings?

I got TeX updated and now updmap works. I can now read Greek in PDF
files without printing them out! Thanks for your help.

I think TeXShop saves files with Unix line endings if the files were=20
created in TeXShop, or coming from another application which already=20
put Unix line endings in them. On the other hand, if you open with=20
TeXShop files coming from another application (like Textures) which=20
saved them with Mac line endings, TeXShop won't change these. The .tex=20=

file that I am working on in TeXShop has indeed Unix line endings, I=20
just checked.

I found that, before opening text files from Classic old days in any=20
Cocoa application, it's safer to open them first in BBEdit (or any=20
similar application, ProjectBuilder.app etc), change all line endings=20
to a unique type (possibly selecting "Show invisibles", doing=20
search/replace with combinations of \n \r).

TeXShop, like all Cocoa applications that I know of, opens text files,=20=

is able to interpret all types of line endings, keeps existing line=20
endings as they are, and adds Unix line endings for new portions of=20
text. This results in a big mess when, afterwards, you want to open the=20=

file in BBEdit say, as BBEdit expect files with a unique type of line=20
ending in them, whatever type this is.

I saw that GraphicConverter has a preference Convert -> Convert=20
Text/IPTC. Is it related to what you ask for?

Have you tried the ImageMagick package and the various graphic=20
libraries (PNG, TIFF, JPEG, etc.) available through i-Installer=20
?

From: "Gerben Wierda"

There will be a few fundamental changes with my TeX distribution. There
will be a new split between what is in TeX Programs and what is in TeX
Foundation. The reason is that some parts of the foundation are very
closely tied to the programs and I support one foundation and two
program sets. There is a new major TeX release drawing near and this
new release will force this split. I decided to change my setup now, so
that I can test the changed setup independently form the changed future
Tex release.

Since there will be a new split, it might be necessary when you update
the programs in the future you have to update the foundation too and
v.v.

I am announcing this before it is effectuated, just to prevent a lot of
questions.

I wondered if there is some place we can find out what these new
changes are (just so we know if it has any implications for working
method). Is there an info page anywhere?

One simple way to preclude this is to always zip files before sending
them. Open terminal. zip -r dirname dirname will create dirname.zip
which you can send through mail via
open -a Mail dirname.zip
or replace Mail with the name of your favorite mail app. Leaving out
the -r, you can do individual files. This doesn't make sense for saving
size of tex files, but if you always use this, then it doesn't really
matter what the receiver uses for their platform.

I have a number of eol conversion scripts (dos/mac/unix) and apps
posted in tools on mac-tex. I should probably package them as an
i-Package. I should also probably update them to their more revised
editions. If anyone wants them, let me know, and I'll repackage.
They're quite simple, but easier than loading into and editor just to
do eol conversions.

There are no real changes in TeX, just in the way my packages are
assembled. Parts of the foundation are now in the programs package. If
you install both, it should still be the same.

On the web page of i-Installer there is a tip on minimizing web traffic
which also would help in your case. I will add teTeX's ChangeLog to the
TeX Foundation Package so you can inspect those before actually runnig
an install.

I do have updated the foundation from teTeX-temf-beta-20021022 to
20021209. And I have added the Adbobe Utopia stuff that was removed
from teTeX because of licensing issues.

Hi all,

Anyone knows if it is possible to use a tool like "pen" of powerpoint
for a tex-pdf based presentation ?
I need to draw some lines on a .pdf file to highlight some
definitions/theorems
during the presentation.
Acrobat Reader has no tools like that; do you know if it is possible to
enhance
the reader with some external graphic tool (both for Win and OsX) ?

Sorry for the OT. Thanks,
	Alessandro
