EDMAC works fine for me with teTeX and TeXShop. I call it with
\usepackage{edmacfss} in the preamble of a LaTeX document in order to
use the LaTeX font selection. EDMAC is plain TeX though but it is very
nice and works with other packages too (ArabTeX for example).

Good luck!

I use pdf images. Even bitmaps in pdf format scale fairly well for
printing.

This would require ghostscript to be available.

I do not know if you have that option, but if you could produce your
images in eps, could you not convert them to pdf and have no bitmap at
all. Something that would scale perfectly?

In that case, you could probablu use epstopdf instead of convert and
not need ImageMagick at all.

Nice idea. I'll try that.

Subject: LaTeX/TeX generated pdfs in email attachments
From: "Jennifer Formichelli"

Hello,

When I drag or attach a TeXshop generated pdf (ie, the file generated
instead of normal dvi) files into the OSX Mail, the attachment displays
as a full picture within the mail unless I hit Cntl and click on 'View
as Icon'; but once these are saved, it reverts to picture.

I have set the Mailer Preferences to plain text so don't know what is
wrong. Not all pdfs show up as full pictures; these seem to be the
particular offenders!

Any help appreciated.

Yours, Jennifer

That is how Mail works. You see the pdf attachments in line. Receiver
using Mail.app also see them inline.

It happens with all OS X-generated pdf's, at least on OS X2.2. It's a
feature.

It seems to me that only one-page pdfs shows up as pictures in Mail. I
don't know how to turn off this feature.

Yes I would like to turn this off too (and to have pdf jpg etc mail=20
attachments sent as separate files to the recipients, who sometimes=20
have problems reading the messages I send them, because of this).

Concerning the display of some, but not all, pdf files: it don't know=20
whether it's related, but in OS X < 10.2, in the Finder in column view,=20=

all pdf files had a preview displayed if their size was smaller than=20
500 kb, and no display if their size was larger.

The Mail Help files contain the following:

Many mail providers limit the size of messages you can send. If the
file you're sending is large, you might want to use a compression
utility program to reduce its size.

If you want to prevent a picture or PDF file from being displayed when
you add it to the message, send the message in plain text format, or
compress the file before you add it to the message.

From this it looks like compressing a pdf file is another option.
