Hi All

An update.

Michel Bovani was kind enough to forward the email on to Daniel Filipo=20=

and this is what he replied:

Sorry, Adrian this is not true: your (very reasonable) wish is already
fulfilled ;-) if you use pdfLaTeX, \LettrineFontEPS accepts graphics in
any format of image understood by pdfTeX (png, pdf, jpeg...).

Have a look at the latest documentation (demo.tex and demo.pdf) on CTAN:
version 1.4, 2002/10/26 (this version corrects a bug when \lettrine is
used in an abstract environment or alike, you should upgrade ;-).

It isn't clear from the documentation that to use it with pdftex you=20
simply leave off the suffix: so if you have W.eps and W.pdf in the=20
correct directories you simply use

\renewcommand{\LettrineFont}{\LettrineFontEPS}

in the preamble

and then

\lettrine{W}{}

in the text. (Not W.pdf)

I also did not have the problem with this release reported by Bob=20
Kerstetter. (Might that not be a hyphenation problem, Bob?)

\lettrine{B}{lah foo blah} blah.....for about four lines

Otherwise you are asking for 4 lines to be in small caps and that could
be messing up the wordwrap.

I was more of a usage problem. Putting too much stuff in the second
parameter.

I typed:

\lettrine{B}{blah .... entire paragraph} %wrong way

instead of:

\lettrine{B}{blah}.... rest of paragraph} %correct way

Thank all of you for your help. I'm going to crawl into a corner hide

I recently began experimenting with FoilTeX+pdflatex+PPower4 to produce
PowerPoint-like slides that display in Acrobat. I'm using Mac OS 10.1.5
and installed PPower4 using Fink.

Hi

I have used `Ubuild' a lot and find it very good. You can integrate
it completely into TeXShop thanks to Gerben Weirda. It is
available from t www.utopiatype.com.au. It costs a small amount like
I think AUD $30. You can download some examples from that same web site.

Ppower4 is part of my TeX. It lives in /usr/local/teTeX/bin/ppower4.
The only thing is that it is not in the path by default, but that is
easy to remedy for people running amok with shells...

I'm using Gerbens tetex and I can't get \o to work correctly: I get
another letter (a c with an accent) instead of the oslash. When I try
\O it works ok.

Uhh?

(And Gerben, a number of files (e.g. sehyphen) are missing from the
ls-R file as installed by your installer. This means that activating
Swedish will make the initialization fail unless a manual "sudo
texhash" is done before, to update the ls-R.)

Hola,

texhash it does not appear to "update" the files in the /User library.
It displays this:

texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.os/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /var/tmp/texfonts/ls-R...
texhash: Done.

There is no "updating ~/Library/texmf/"

Is that okay? Or is there something to append to "sudo texhash" to make
it process ~/Library/texmf/

The texhash man page is a little vague, but does show "mktexlsr
[directories]" as it's synopsis.

Thanks.

That is correct. In texmf.cnf, it is configured that way: the other =
directories
are searched through the database (essentially the output of `ls -R'), the
~Library/texmf tree is searched on disk by the kpse library, no need for a
database.

They are also missing from my distribution. That is because they are
missing from teTeX. And that is because there is (for instance) no
sehyph.tex with a license (free, freely distributable) that Thomas
Esser will make part of teTeX.

Yes. It is configured that way so that ordinary users never have to go
to the command line and run texhash, while they are able to add stuff
to their personal tree.
