Cocoaspell does not work with OSX 10.2, so spell checking in TeXShop or
ITM seems dependent on standard dictionaries that mislabel TeX
commands. I am reluctant to add all TeX commands to a standard
dictionary, thus compromising its use for other applications.

Are there better dictionaries available? If so, where do I put them?
(It is not clear where TeX is finding its dictionaries, since the
Spelling folder in my Library folder doesn't have the languages shown
in TeXShop and ITM.)

Cocoa aspell Version 1.3 (Aspell 0.33.7.1) works for me in 10.2, when
dropped in
~/Library/Services, and it is set up as a login item with the login
items control panel.

Do you really mean version 1.3 ?

I am running Version 1.1 but it has the same build number as you cite
above (0.33.7.1). Would be grateful if you could confirm the version
number.

I've been unable to connect to the CocoAspell site recently:

http://homepage.mac.com/~leuski/cocoaspell/

returns a "member site not found" error.

Is there a new site ?

thanks,

mark.

Yes. If you use VersionTracker (www.versiontracker.com) you will see
this is the latest version.

Again, using VersionTracker, you can find the correct place to download
it is now:

Thanks Ralph. I don't go to version tracker anymore (strongly disagree
with how the site now operates) so thats why I missed it. (If it was
recent, I think it didn't show up on MacUpdate, Softrak or "HyperJeff")

Another way to always get the latest correct url is to go to the
mac-tex web pages (see the signature below!). It's where you signed up
to be on this list. I update it very regularly, and if I've missed
something, please tell me and I update the pages right away. Why
doesn't anyone give this as the feedback to these questions (current
version, url, what apps exist...)? I could save a lot of time just
setting up a redirect to versiontracker.

I apologize in advance if this is a gratuitous post and a waste of
bandwidth and everyone's time, but...

i-Installer v2 works beautifully!!! I've updated everything and
between the tasks it has always done, the inclusion of the estimated
time of download completion, the configuration options at the end, and
its robustness, I am nearly giddy! Well, maybe not giddy, but very
happy and pleased. :-)

Thank you once again, Gerben, for all your work and for the excellent
product of that work.

I did exactly this, but now I can't use thumbpdf anymore. It uses
a device png16 which is not available under Ghostscript 7. Is there
anything I can do to get the thumbpdf functionality back? I also
tried to uninstall GS 7, but the GS 7 package for the new i-Installer
doesn't support uninstalling the package.

Thanks for any help.

Just re-install ghostscript 6. I'll add remove scripts for both
packages soon.

Howdy,

The older i-Installer showed panes for all the previously downloaded
packages upon opening. Is there a way for the new i-Installer to do the =
same
thing or must you open the panes for each package through the open-recent
menu item?

Do you check for updates for a package by opening up the pane for that
package and pressing the Update button under the Properties tab? If =
that's
how you do it then shouldn't the Properties tab be the default opening tab
for previously downloaded packages?

By the way, what is in the TeX Configure package? Do I need it if I =
already
had a previous version of Gerben's distribution up and running?

All in all the new i-Installer is very well done; thank you Gerben! I
particularly like the ability to view all available packages.

Thanks and Good Luck,

Subject: i-Installer Release Candidate 3
From: "Gerben Wierda"
Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 21:10:25 +0100

RC3 is available. Changes with respect to RC2a:
	- Setting the URL of a package is now directly supported
	- It is possible to set a package that requires authentication to
ignore that setting and run unauthenticated (menu option). That way,
someone without administrator access could install TeX somewhere in his
own home directory (ignore authentication and change install location).
Note that this is useful for TeX, but it is not useful for ghostscript.
*), so one will be limited to using pdfTeX if one does not have
administrator access). Setting the system-wide CLI environment during
configuration will of course also fail since write access is not
available.

See http://www.rna.nl/ii.html for access to i-Installer and
http://www.rna.nl/tex.html for access to the TeX-fat volume.

G

PS. It seems www.ntg.nl has completely lost the macosx-tex tree (and
that exactly at the moment that I announced i-Installer v2 and the TeX
packages. That means that for the time being, UTAH is the only source
of i-Packages and i-Directories,

*) The reason is that TeX is smart and ghostscript somewhat less smart
when it goes looking for support files. Without special tricks
(environment mainly), a relocated ghostscript will be unable to work
because the compiled-in path will be incorrect. It is easy enough to
set this environment for your login shell (as I do with the search path
for TeX), but it is less straightforward for GUI applications like TeX
frontends.

The old i-Installer came in socalled *dedicated* versions, where there
were packages *inside* the i-Installer application. Those were not the
'previously downloaded' packages, but more or less the
kangaroo-packages. Th eneed for that construct has gone as I now have a
better way of handling authentication. So yes, you need to open them
through recent items, just like with all other Mac OS X apps.

No, the update button actually *performs* the update. The check is in
the menu (Redisplay Remote Version).

I could easily say that "Inspect Files" is te most important tab as it
displayes the package info/help at startup. There is also someting to
say for your choice. However, to provide an as easy-as-possible
interface for nocies who just want to install, it is the install tab
that is opened first.

> By the way, what is in the TeX Configure package? Do I need it if I

> had a previous version of Gerben's distribution up and running?

No. This package just contains the configuration stuff that is also
available in the other TeX packages (exactly the same). I created it
when I started out with i-Installer v2 to test the interactive stuff
and I wanted a lightweight package to move around.

This package is a generic TeX configuration package, it is not only
possible to configure my TeX with it, but you could as easily configure
your TeX Live or an other TeX with it (though it must be a recent TeX
to be effective). Without the possibility of accidentally downloading
my distribution too ;-) But if you use my distribution, there is no
need to use it.
