Hello,
I have discovered that there is a lot of type1 fonts installed with
teTeX (G. Wierda's installer), and there are some other type1 fonts on
CTAN (EC for instance). I would like to know if it is possible to see
them on MacOSX. It is not very usefull to have fonts and not be able to
see what they represent!
Is there a "table" on the Web where I can find the difference between
them: it seems that the EC type1 fonts duplicate some "standard" ones...
I am very confused.
By the way, the cm-super package is no more accessible at G. Wierda's
site...

It is (alas!) not possible to use them as standard Mac fonts. You can=20
display every single character by typesetting:

- in plain TeX: /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/plain/base/testfont.tex

- in LaTeX: /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/nfssfont.tex

The file testfont.tex is not documented in the TeXbook, but in chapter=20=

5 and appendix H of the METAFONTbook.

The EC fonts on CTAN in tex-archive/fonts/ps-type1/ec/ have been=20
superseded by the cm-super fonts. As for the hfbright fonts in=20
tex-archive/fonts/ps-type1/hfbright/, they seem to be a PostScript=20
version of the CM Bright fonts of which I just discovered the=20
existence. CM Bright are apparently a complete (math + non-math) set of=20=

sans-serif fonts for (La)TeX. I'm very interested by this, I will give=20=

them a try when I have time (not right now).

According to an earlier message from Gerben, the i-Installer package=20
for cm-super fonts has been temporarily removed from his website due to=20=

disk space restriction.

I want to install the CM-Super i-Package.
Is there another location where I can get the i-Package?
When will they come back to Gerbens=B4 Page?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the rest of your suggestions. I had tried sudo texconfig
earlier, but it gives the same tex pool and format failed errors. i
also tried your/Gerben's other suggestion of creating a new user.

So finally I removed the tex installation once again, then got the old
TeX.dmg from Richard Koch's site. (Earlier I had used TeX-fat.dmg (> 60
MB) from Gerben's site.)

Now everything works allright. Of course I see I am missing the files I
had added to the machine-level texmf tree, but I can get these from a
backup. (I didn't realize that installing 10.2 via "archive and
install" would get rid of the texmf tree. ) I notice that the files in
my local user-level texmf tree are undisturbed.

Thanks again for all your help. I have one more machine to convert to
10.2, so if you can think of anything I should have done differently,
I'd appreciate a heads-up. I haven't seen too many complaints from 10.2
upgrades on this list, so either people haven't upgraded or I must have
been off somewhere ...

Best wishes.

Actually the texmf tree is still there, invisible, in /Previous=20
Systems/Previous System 1/usr/local/teTeX.

Upgrading to 10.2 did create a huge mess for me: it corrupted my=20
original user account, in such a way that I could no longer login=20
normally, and my account did not show up in System Prefs/Accounts.=20
Apple suggested "Archive and Install", it just made things worse. I had=20=

to create another account, move all my files including mail archive (~=20=

700 Mb) and bookmarks there, changing permissions accordingly. And I=20
haven't been able to delete my old account either, as for the OS it is=20=

only half existing - maybe a ghost account?

But now I do appreciate the added functionalities of OS 10.2, so this=20
was worthy.

The CM-Super package has temporarily been removed because of space
restrictions. There will be another CM-Super package when (soon)
i-Installer v2 is released.

What's new? The comments on versiontracker are...unfavorable.
