I'm getting this error:

This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2C 7.3.7)
The top-level auxiliary file: V4.aux
The style file: plain.bst
Database file #1: process.bib
Your field is more than 5000 characters---line 664 of file process.bib
: TITLE =3D "Contracting Out Go
  : vernment Services--Best Practice
Guidelines and Case Studies" ,
I'm skipping whatever remains of this entry
Warning--I didn't find a database entry for "pro:green-zimmerman"
..... (it continues for the remainder of all the rest of the entries
with the same Warning)...

The entry in the bib file is:

@TECHREPORT{pro:OECD-priv ,
AUTHOR =3D "Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development" ,
TITLE =3D "Contracting Out Government Services--Best Practice Guidelines =

and Case Studies" ,
  INSTITUTION =3D "OECD" ,
  YEAR =3D "1998" ,
TYPE =3D "Public Management Occasional Papers" ,
  NUMBER =3D "20" ,
  ADDRESS =3D "Paris"
}

I can't understand what is wrong.

Did you check there's no invisible character hidden between "Go" and=20
"vernment"? Try retyping this word, and see what happens. Or open the=20
file in BBEdit, for example, and check "Show invisibles".

Or did you check all matching braces {}, and also "", before this point=20=

in the file?

There is nothing wrong with that entry as I received it, but it may =
contain
a strange character in your bib file and this may cause BibTeX to not find
the end of the entry, and therefore not any of the following entries. I
would suggest that you erase that entry from the "process.bib" file and
paste it in again from a reliable source.

I moved the entries around, and re-checked the file for any extra line
feeds that might have been seen in Latex. It seems that no matter what I
do, an error comes up.
The most recent is:

This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2C 7.3.7)
The top-level auxiliary file: V4.aux
The style file: plain.bst
Database file #1: process.bib
Your field is more than 5000 characters---line 608 of file process.bib
  : JOURN
: AL =3D "The Magazine for Chief Financial Officers ",
I'm skipping whatever remains of this entry
Warning--I didn't find a database entry for "pro:green-zimmerman"
Warning--I didn't find a database entry for "pro:shin-leem"
Warning--I didn't find a database entry for "pro:segev-gebaue
(....this continues for the rest of the bib database)

If I cut and paste this entry to somewhere else, the error still appears.

This seems like the problem. Are there missing braces along the way?
Look in the entries /above/ the one that's throwing an error (which
appears to have changed between your two examples, which may give a
clue where the real error is).

I suspect that the error lies somewhere within the field data or entry =
that
one would find by going back 5000 characters from the error point. Perhaps =
a
missing "}".

From: "Fredrik Wallenberg"

I have few needs for a paper I'm about to submit to SIGCHI.

1) I need to use a bib style like abbrv but would like to make my url
field part of the bibliography. Does anyone know of such a style?

2) I am supposed to use a 2 column layout with the columns on the last
page balanced (both columns of equal length). Right now I insert
\newpage at a point that looks right, but this is a tad bit manual for
my taste ;-)

Thanks,

Fredrik

I will need in the coming period a few beta-testers for the new
i-Installer mechanism and the new TeX distributions. I would like to
create a small and diverse group. If you are interested, please answer
me *off list* with the following information:

	1. Which Mac OS X versions do you use/plan to test?
	2. Are you unix-savvy (please answer this in some details so I get
a feeling how unix-savvy you are)?
	3. Are you TeX-savvy (i.e. do you know how TeX finds files, etc)?
	4. What kind of internet setup do you have (firewalls, proxies,
caches)?
	5. Do you use for TeX a frontend, the command line, or both?

The FAQ mentions[1] that the Harvard styles support a URL field.

I also have a package which attempts to add such support, along with
support for a @webpage entry type, to pre-existing .bst files. The
package[2] comes with a pre-converted abbrv.bst, called abbrvurl.bst.
That might do the trick.

All the best,

Subject: Changing Textures files to std TeX - fugures?
From: "Keith Chugg"
Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 12:13:24 -0700

Hello,

I am just now switching to OS X. I have been a long time user of
Textures. One of the things that attracted me initially was the way
that Textures allowed for cut and past / WSIWYG figure placement. With
\includegraphix, this has improved in std LaTeX. Coupled with the lack
of Textures on OS X and the need to interact with the rest of the
world, I am ready to switch to std figure inclusion and TexShop.

However, I have years (hundreds of documents) with figures included
using the Textures method (ie., mac special commands). I created
figures using SuperPaint and Kaleidagraph. These figures use the cmr
.ps fonts included in the Textures installation. In the Superpaint
drawings, I often pasted LaTex equations from the textures typeset
windows. The point being that the .ps cmr fonts need to be included in
an eps/pdf files generated.

Question: does anybody have any suggestions on how to transition with
the least amount of pain? I know that I can open super paint docs in
classic, print to .ps and then convert to pdf, but this will cause lots
of headaches with the bounding boxes, etc. - this was the draw of
Textures in the first place. I was also wondering if there was a way
to typeset my old documents in textures, convert the typeset to .pdf,
then select and cut only the figures out of the pdf document - saving
these as pdf documents themselves...

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I doubt I'm the first person
lurking on this list who has to deal with this.

regards,

Keith

Hello

This is not really a TeX question but since Mac-emacs has already been=20=

discussed here, maybe someone can help me.

I am using Mac-emacs v 1.4 on OSX 1.5. I have tried to use 8-bit=20
characters but so far without success.

Mac-emacs displays a file that already contains 8-bit codes with the=20
octal escape sequences, e.g., \'e shows up as \216. If I enter a 8-bit=20=

character from the keyboard, either with the standard Mac dead key=20
technique or with the TeX backslash method, I get only a blank square.=20=

Finally, the display of the Hello page is rather strange. All 8-bit=20
characters corresponding to european languages appear as white squares=20=

but the Far East lines are all OK.

I have tried the obvious places for information (info, emacs discussion=20=

groups), so far without success. It looks as if mac-emacs does not have=20=

access to the fonts required for the display but I don't know what fonts=20=

it actually expects and where they are supposed to be. The list-fontset=20=

function produces

Fontset: -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-fontset-default
Fontset: -etl-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-fontset-mac

so it looks like it should work.

Does anybody know how to get it to work or where I could get more=20
information?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
