The "wrapfig" package is used to wrap text around figures, but under
TeXShop (I'm using 1.13) the box used to contain the figure propagates
down the page, and even onto the next page.

I'm not a TeX wizard, but I've been using LaTeX for several years now,
and I know how to use wrapfig!

Thanks for any insights...

Sorry for my late reply.

There are a lot of manuals at their website. Unfortunately their website
is down. They do have an updated website at

	http://ds035.xs4all.nl/

As for the correct command, try

	texexec --pdf

Omitting the "--pdf" outputs a dvi file. This works if you have ConTeXt
set up and working. Of course, much easier thing to do is use the
ConTeXt button in TeXShop to typeset my simple example. If the setup is
correct, you should get a pdf. The TeXShop preview shows a whole page,
but if you look at the pdf in Preview.app you'll see it's nicely cropped.

Also, I can't remember where at the moment, but there is a Latex ->
ConTeXt tutorial on the web. I think Google will find it.

Hello MacOS X TeX listers:

Brief intro time. My name is Jack Skoda and I use LaTeX. I've been =
hooked
on TeX and LaTeX since the late 80s. One of my math professors clued me =
in
and I've used LaTeX for my writing needs ever since, even while finishing
a liberal arts writing degree. Now I'm on to a MA in history of science
and technology and I'm wicked happy to using teTeX on my Mac!

What do people use for xfig on the mac? I'm downloading the Fink
package now but I don't want/need the whole distribution. I'm just
looking for something to do illustrations in my thesis...

If there is a free tool for the Mac that can compete with xfig, I
too would like to know about it. I have downloaded fink, XDarwin, and
xfig, but have not used them much so far. I did a quick test, exporting
a little diagram in PDF format and including it in my tex file with the
graphicx package. It seems to work well, except for embedded text.

If you use XDarwin, make sure to start by reading the help file, or
fiddling with the preferences, so you know how to emulate a three-button
mouse.

There is a java implementation of xfig called jfig that somehow works. You
can find it there

http://tech-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/applets/jfig/

The main problem is that when I tried it I had to use a browser (was it IE?=
)
that implemented its own java VM. The the MRJ engine does not seem to be
able to make it work. Alas...

Actually, it works just fine with the applet laucher that comes with OS
10.0.4. The only caveat is that it (the applet) does not seem to want to
quit. My problems were with OS 8.6 and 9.1...

There are still some shortcomings especially with fonts, although I might
very well be wrong...
