Hi there,

I am interested in some comments about converting LaTeX to HTML. I have
found those two packages. Are there any experiences?

Regards,

Cyrill

Hi John

I don't know of anything specific to MacOS X and UNIX but there
are lots of UNIX books in the bookshops of the `UNIX in 30 seconds'
type. There are also some good tutorials and guides around for free
such as those
linked from

http://wks.uts.ohio-state.edu/

Those and knowing that you can get some help by doing

man topic

at a prompt might be a help.

Michael

Subject: TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [pool size=3D64720]
From: "Alan Curtis"
Date: Fri, 9 Nov 2001 14:26:21 -0500

I got this error when running TeXShop with the MarSlide package
(after seeing a recommendation here).

TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [pool size=3D64720]

I read the teTeX-FAQ and believe I need to edit the texmf.cnf file
and run texconfig init.

There is no line in texmf.cnf that has 'pool' in it so I added one at the =
end

pool =3D 70000

and ran texconfig init but nothing changed.

I am not sure I edited the right texmf.cnf or added the right line or
even know what I am doing at all.

Any hints would be appreciated.

I've found a brief introduction to Darwin in Mastering Mac OS X, by Todd
Stauffer. My mac came with OS X installed, so I didn't get the developer
tools CD. But apparently I can download the tools to deal with Darwin on
the apple site.
thanks!

Usually when you get this error it isn't because the memory capacity is
too small. In the days when TeX came in "small" and "big" sizes, this
sometimes happened, but I think just about everything is "bigTeX" now.
The capacity exceeded error is usually the result of something in your own =

TeX code, not a result of the limitation of the capacity of TeX. Changing
the memory capacity won't fix the problem because the memory problem in
your code will eat up as much memory as you have.

Well, I wrote a lot of LaTeX2HTML; so I guess that counts as experience. =
:-)

At present I don't have a need to use it under MacOS X, but it certainly
works there --- a colleague has successfully installed it.

Given a teTeX installation, the only tricky part is compiling the netpbm
graphics utilities, as there may not be a recognised 'darwin' option
for the Make files. An experienced hacker can get around this ---
we have the proof of that, which doubtless can be shared.

Hope this helps,

HI

I think you need the one in

/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c

it has  lines

% Max number of characters in all strings, including all error messages,
% help texts, font names, control sequences. These values apply to TeX =
and MP.
pool_size.context =3D 750000
pool_size =3D 750000
%pool_size =3D 125000

You can install fink from sourceforge and install LaTeX2HTML from fink
and also netpbm. Type only "fink install LaTeX2HTML" into your terminal.

I'd like to follow up on this. I've seen the poolsize error in documents
where I'm using

- seminar package
- hyperref package
- pdflatex rather than Tex+Ghostscript

Not knowing any better, I edited texmf.cnf (after getting permission
from Gerben :-)
and modified the setting
pool_size =3D 125000
to 500000

Lo and behold! the error message is gone.

Yet I'm willing to admit there's something wrong in my code (it works
perfectly under OzTeX, though) - but what?
