I found the followign fix for setting A4 as default paper size on
MacFixit.  This
worked for me -- at least for the last couple of days.

As it involves fiddling with a system file you do it at your own
risk !! I don't have sufficient expertise to assure you that it
will not do any harm.

Note that it is case sensitive. I entered iso-A4 and it didn't work.

Subject: Strange TeXShop image behavior (?)
From: "Neal Parikh"
Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 00:01:57 -0400

I use OmniGraffle (http://www.omnigroup.com) to create diagrams for use
in my LaTeX documents, and I've noticed some very odd behavior in
TeXShop when I try to get them embedded.

First of all, if I export the image to PDF, using:

\includegraphics{figure1}

won't work if figure1.pdf is in the same folder for some reason. I
imagine this is because it requires that the EPS file also be there, but
I'm not sure. As a result, I have to export the diagram to TIFF, then
use ImageMagick to convert to EPS, and then use epstopdf to make my
PDF.  *Then* \includegraphics{} works.

However, when I print out the document, the image is really fuzzy. The
image is *not* fuzzy when I print from OmniGraffle, and the image is
*not* fuzzy when I print the exported TIFF or PDF file. If I import the
PDF image into Microsoft Word X, for example, it prints out fine. In
TeXShop, it becomes fuzzy, and it seems to become even fuzzier when I
center it using the following code:

\begin{centering}
\includegraphics{figure1}
\end{centering}

Any ideas? Most frustrating... =3D)

TIA

Just to say that I applied the same trick and it runs fine .

Rather than editing the actual file, it is probably easier to just
copy the analogous resource from en_GB.lproj or en_AU.lproj. In
principle the system ought to take the default page size from these
when the language is set to British or Australian English, but this
seems to be broken. Copying the appropriate Localizable.strings to
English.lproj gives the required behaviour:

sudo cp
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Framewo=
rks/PrintCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/en_GB.lproj/Localizable.string=
s
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Framewo=
rks/PrintCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/English.lproj/Localizable.stri=

I've also used OmniGraffle to produce PDF's for TeXShop, but I use
pdftex. In TeXShop, look at your "typeset" menu. Is pdftex checked?
And, do you have "\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx}" in your file?

Subject: External Editor Protocol for TeXShop?
From: "Troy Goodson"

I'd like TeXShop to support the External Editor Protocol. There's
information on it at

 and

According the former, "this protocol is currently implemented by
BBEdit, Style, Tex-Edit Plus and PageSpinner on the server side, and
by Interarchy, NetFinder, Transmit and Fetch on the client side."

It apparently works via Apple Events. It sounds like a good idea.
Any thoughts?

Troy.

This, not Marco's, is the canonical site.

It's pretty easy to implement. I did it in about 200 lines of
verbosely commented Tcl code for Alpha.
