Hi all,
I am using TexShop 1.13 with tetex.
I want to use the pandora package (included in tetex).
On typesetting (pdftex) I get an empty document and this warning:
"Warning: /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/pdflatex
(file pnr10
): Font pnr10 at 720 not found"

the same thing with the oldgerm package.

So I tried the tex + gs option: nor fonts either.
But now I switched back to pdftex: no warning but in the pdf all
characters are at the same place, which is not really better than a
blank output.
Changing the fontsize from 10pt to 12pt starts with the Font not found =
Warning.

Can somebody give me a solution to this??

Dear all,

last summer I wrote in Latex the notes of a course in which
I included many figures. In the first version I use .eps figures
(created with freehand) then I converted them in .pdf.

Today I recompile the .tex file but when I tried to see
the result TeXShop crashes and crashes also Mac OS X.1.
The same happens using Preview.
To came back with .eps figures makes no difference.

This happens only when I try to see the pages in which
the figures are displayed. Acrobat Reader 5 works
fine even if is very slow to display the figures (in particular
the ones in which some region is colored or filled with
straight lines).

It seems a MacOsX.1 problem but I'm not sure and, much more
important, I don't know what I have to do to work
on my notes.

With the old version of Texshop and OSX.0.4 I rarely have
crashes, but I was able to develop the entire work and I remember
that TeXShop displayed the figures.
I had a printing problem with the same file (I wrote a
post some times ago). I had to print it switching to macos 9.1
(now I am not able to check if the file can be printed under osX.1).

I don't want to switch back to os 9.1 because I love OsX.1 and texshop.

Every comment is very welcome !!! Thanks in advance.

Alessandro

I now try to use Cmac Tex+macGSview+macps2pdf
and they work fine. Acrobat reader works and the speed of
displaying the figures is much more better.

I then try to see the .pdf file produced by cmactex+macps2pdf
using texshop and preview and... nothing appears!!
Appears only some math fonts (mathbb essentially);
no figures appear.

Then I try to use the .ps file generated by texshop and
macps2pdf. The resulting .pdf file has a good speed in acrobat
(and it shows both text and figures)
but texshop and preview show nothing as before.

It seems to me that the problem is in the .ps -> .pdf operation
performed by the tetex package.

TIA,
	Alessandro

Dear Allesandro,

I wonder whether it is related to my problem with
printing: My problem was not specifically TeXShop, though
it seemd that way at first.
According to Dick Kock there is a known
Apple bug: here is what he sent me:

It is useful to know how TeXShop displays and prints. In both cases,
it just calls the Apple class NSPDFImageRep to do the hard work. TeXShop
has no special code for printing; it just says to the system "OK, here's
the
pdf, so print page 3 of this pdf."

It turns out that Apple's program Preview does the same thing. When a bug
is suspected in TeXShop, it is useful to see what Preview does. In this
case,
it does exactly the same thing that TeXShop does. It displays the pdf
fine, but
prints with missing pieces of the summation sign.

Next we attempt to determine if this is a bad pdf. To do that, we open
the
file in Adobe Acrobat 5.0, running natively on Mac OS 10.1. This program
displays the file fine, but ALSO PRINTS FINE.

The conclusion is that Apple's printing code has errors interpreting
pieces of
this pdf document. I'll report the problem and hope that they fix it
rapidly. Thanks for the report.

Dick Koch

Your problem may be unrelated but I had similar problems
printing TeX files from TeXShop and Preview, and similar
difficulties when I used the pdf conversions in Create.

The moral: stay away from native Apple created PDF
rendering. Adobe Acrobat works fine, as does adobe distiller.
My work around: work with eps and convert to pdf with distiller, and
then print from acrobat. Ugly, but seeming necessary for the present
I also tried PStill (a thing that comes from Stone Design, in
a package with Create) this seemed to work too, but I did
not test extensively.

I hope this helps: It might also be a red-herring since I am
not very expert in these things.

I've used pStill almost exclusively for creating .pdfs for my personal
stuff (see my portfolio page at http://members.aol.com/willadams for
samples) and've had good luck with it. It's free for NeXTstep users now,
but I was very glad to be able to license it when it first came out.
It's also free for personal / academic use on Linux.

With some fonts (e.g. Octavian), TeX/dvips does do a rather odd trick of
handling character kerning and encoding in one step, which trips up the
pStill PostScript interpreter. Frank Siegert, the author of pStill
(www.wizards.de/~frank) was kind enough to provide me with a snippet of
PS code which fixes this. Not sure if that's necessary with the Mac OS X
version or no.

Subject: Tables in LaTeX?
From: "Neal Parikh"
Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2001 19:05:42 -0400

I need some help making Excel-type tables in my LaTeX documents (using
TeXShop). Basically I need tables that will give me the horizontal and
vertical rules to delineate rows and columns, and I also need options
for things like captions and a title cell that would be the equivalent
of a merged cell that spans the width of the entire thing. In ASCII:

-----------------------------
| TITLE |
-----------------------------
| x | y | z | x | y | z | x |
-----------------------------
| x | y | z | x | y | z | x |
-----------------------------
| x | y | z | x | y | z | x |
-----------------------------

Can anyone help me out with a few examples? Having a little trouble
getting the hand of the position and width specifications.

TIA
