Laser Laboratory - 108 EES
The evolving and interdisciplinary thermal shock and laser machining facility is housed in the 108 Earth and Engineering Science building on the west side of campus. Currently, the laboratory is home for a 500W (1.5KW peak) power CO2 laser with a custom beam-delivery system capable of supplying simultaneous and independently controlled beams at different power levels from the same laser source. The dual-beam capability is currently being used develop reduced-fracture-risk methods for the machining of ceramics such as alumina.
