Maureen Macaleer

The vision of Penn State’s new capital campaign is “to advance the frontiers of learning at the most comprehensive, student-centered research university in America.” I am very pleased to work with Dr. Judith Todd and ESM to secure private support for this campaign.

Over the next four years, we will transform Penn State through six initiatives:

  • Ensuring Student Opportunity
  • Enhancing Honors Education
  • Enriching the Student Experience
  • Building Faculty Strength and Capacity
  • Fostering Discovery and Creativity
  • Sustaining a Tradition of Quality

Your support can make ESM the premier program in the field. Please help us by contacting me, Maureen A. Macaleer, mam84@psu.edu or 814-863-3674.

Thank you for your support and generosity!

In Memoriam

ESM remembers Dr. Richard Llorens, MS E MCH ‘58, PhD E MCH ‘61, (1930-2009), professor of Engineering and Mechanical Science, founding professor of the Penn State King of Prussia Graduate Center (Radnor Center) from 1965, and Interim Dean at the dedication of the Great Valley Graduate Center in 1989. He retired from Penn State in 1990.

Prior to joining Penn State, a career lasting more than three decades, Dr. Llorens served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, and taught at Drexel University from 1961 to 1965.

In 1967, he began an association with the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) at Warminster, PA where he worked as an engineer for the Navy until his retirement from government service in 1997. He was instrumental in building an academic relationship between Penn State and the U.S. Navy that continues to this day.

Dr. Llorens remained active in academia even after his retirement from Penn State and the U.S. Government, authoring many academic and technical journal articles. Indeed, his last paper titled “Scaled Similarity Solutions” is currently awaiting publication in the Journal of Applied Mechanics.

A “Memorial Gift in Honor of Richard E. Llorens” has been established to support a graduate student scholarship. Donations may be sent c/o Maureen Macaleer, College of Engineering Development Office, Hammond Building, Penn State University, University Park, PA 16802.
