Alumni Mentoring Program

The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) and the Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) jointly sponsor the Engineering Science and Mechanics Mentoring Program to facilitate the professional development of engineering science and mechanics students by providing these students with guidance, counsel and networking opportunities. Students and alumni mentors are matched based on their background and interests and interact on a one-to-one basis to assist the student with their academic and professional development.

Student-Alumni Registration

To participate in the Engineering Science and Mechanics Mentoring Program, both students and alumni members must register online and provide contact and background information such as address and telephone number, personal and professional interests, preferred geographic locations and both short and long term career goals.

Students can request a mentor by completing the online registration at Student Registration for Mentoring Program.

Alumni/ae members can register online to become mentors by providing the information requested at Alumni Mentor Registration.

Student-Mentor Matching

Representatives of the ESM Department and the AAB will analyze registration information submitted by students and alumni to define optimum student-mentor matches. Subsequently, students and mentors will be notified of their matches and provided each other's background information.

Student-Mentor Resources

The ESM Mentoring Handbook provides additional information on the mentoring program, including a detailed description of the mentoring process.

Guidelines for establishing a successful student-mentor relationship are available at Guidelines for the Student and Guidelines for the Mentor. These guidelines have been established based on best practices of successful student mentoring programs at Penn State University.
