Ellen Arruda

Ellen Arruda

Ellen Arruda is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. She received her B.S. in Engineering Science and M.S. in Engineering Mechanics from Penn State, and her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Professor Arruda is recognized as an expert in elastomer, polymer, composite and soft tissue mechanics and also in tissue engineering. She has over 40 journal publications. She is a Past President of the Society of Engineering Science and currently serves an an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering, and Molecular and Cellular Biomechanics. She served for six years as Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics.

Dr. Arruda was named a Centennial Fellow of the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, Pennsylvania State University, in 2006 and was awarded the Research Excellence Award, College of Engineering, University of Michigan, in 2007.
